From our schools. For our schools.

Hi there, I’m Laura Jensen!

I’ve spent my lifetime as a resident of the Kent School District. I attended Fairwood, Meeker, and Kentridge, class of 1998. I worked for the district my senior year and again from 2008-2024. I have been a substitute para, school adjustment para, an elementary library para and a 1:1 para. I was also union rep for my building for several years.

I’m running for school board because I believe this district can be excellent—but right now, we are falling short, especially for our most vulnerable students. I’ve seen students with IEPs go unsupported, high schoolers graduate without basic literacy skills, and programs like iGrad struggle in inadequate facilities.

As a staff member, I’ve witnessed how instability in special education leadership disrupts progress. We need a comprehensive audit of the special education department—including trends in lawsuits and compliance—to restore accountability and trust.

I also believe we need to re-evaluate how we’re spending money at the district level. Are we prioritizing students and classrooms, or central office salaries? I grew up in this district—I know how great it can be. I’m running to make sure every student, no matter their background, has the support they need to succeed.
